The
law firm of Rotatori, Bender, Gragel, Stoper & Alexander
Co., L.P.A. was organized in 2001, just as a new era of legal
challenges began to emerge.
The firm is comprised of professional, experienced and innovative
lawyers who approach clients’ legal matters with consummate
knowledge and skill. They have gained the respect of their
peers, locally and nationally, and are often called upon to
take cases that are especially complex.
The era in which the firm was established was marked by the
dot com crash, the Enron scandal and the fateful events of
9/11. These events have forever changed the way we live and
do business. In the wake of these developments, new laws,
new regulations and new attitudes have been shaped by society’s
demand for more accountability at every level.
The penalties for failing to comply with these new laws and
directives are severe. The judgment rendered in many cases
is unyielding. The justice system is quicker, more able and
less tolerant than ever before. We live in times more reflective
of the desires of society than the axioms of law.
Today’s law firm bears little resemblance to that of
its predecessor a decade or two ago. Technology has made the
size of a firm irrelevant and the practice of law less collegial
and more demanding.
Rotatori, Bender, Gragel, Stoper & Alexander strives to
maintain a balance, practicing according to traditional legal
standards while at the same time adapting to technology, trends
and the ever evolving justice system.
What has not changed is the demand for lawyers who are diligent,
hard working and keenly aware of the need to be sensitive
to the human element that exists in every case.
When and where it can, the firm exercises what we call precautionary
counsel, which is advice based on the experience of dealing
with hundreds of cases and situations that once were considered
civil matters, but now fall within the realm of white-collar
crime.
White-collar crime, a term originated by government attorneys
to denote fraudulent business practices, is a field in which
our lawyers have dealt successfully for years. Part of this
success can be traced to the experience that members of the
firm acquired while working for the government, in the U.S.
Justice Department and the Internal Revenue Service.
The most useful counsel we give today is the admonition to
anticipate the consequences of any business strategy before
putting it into practice. The lines between criminal cases
and civil law suits are no longer blurred, but in many instances,
sharply defined.
Because of this experience and their ability to organize and
master complex cases, the lawyers at Rotatori, Bender, Gragel,
Stoper & Alexander, are able to quickly form teams that
join difficult and unusual cases and bond into a formidable
defense.
Conversely,
each lawyer is a litigator who can function independently,
effectively and economically, on cases of lesser magnitude.
The
firm’s timely and knowledgeable intervention in tax
cases has prevented many clients from facing the most serious
of penalties. This work has earned for the firm a reputation
of skill and good judgment, qualities that are the mark
to which other professionals turn when referring their clients.
Our work in labor and human resource cases is no less significant.
No business is a single entity, but a series of issues and
events that blend together to create commerce. By understanding
the intricacy of this, the lawyers in the firm can apply
a perspective to all legal issues that affect business.
