In
the past two decades Richard L. Stoper, Jr. has acquired the
professional skills and experience to be regarded as an expert
in dealing with matters involving allegations of business
crime to the contesting of labor issues.
Stoper was a partner with Rotatori, Gragel & Stoper when
it was formed in 1999 and specialized in civil litigation
and white-collar criminal defense work.
He began his legal career as a law clerk for Judge Leroy J.
Contie, Jr., U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit,
following graduation from Cleveland Marshall Law School. He
earned his undergraduate degree at The Ohio State University.
Following his work with the federal court, Stoper spent more
than two years with the firm of Burke, Haber & Berick,
where he concentrated on commercial litigation. He joined
the firm of Gold, Rotatori & Schwartz, where he handled
complex civil and criminal litigation.
Stoper characterizes one of the firm’s strengths as
the ability to form litigation teams in quick response to
complex legal situations. He cites the firm’s attention
to detail as its hallmark.
“White-collar crime is not a field that many firms specialize
in,” Stoper says. “You need lawyers with the experience
to contest these cases, and that experience can only be gained
by doing this work consistently.”
Stoper also plays a key role in the firm’s labor practice.
He believes that the ready availability of technology for
research and information management has lessened the advantages
that larger law firms previously possessed. Cases today, he
says, hinge more on the skill and ability of the individual
lawyer than ever before.
